Point Piper is a small, exclusive harbour peninsula of waterfront estates, and a move here is defined by the water and the slope. Homes on Wolseley Road and Wingadal Place at the peninsula tip step steeply down toward private jetties and pontoons, so the carry runs down through the house and back up again, and the most valuable pieces (the art, the piano, the cellar) travel that path with the most care. Driveways are often short and steep with tight, gated entries, and the narrow peninsula streets give a large truck very little room to manoeuvre or wait. This is a suburb where the truck is genuinely the cheap part: the plan is all about how we protect and carry irreplaceable contents through a harbourside grade without a mark.
Every Point Piper move starts with the access and the contents, because together they decide the truck, the crew and the carry. Here is what we plan around:
- Waterfront homes commonly step down steeply from the street toward jetties, so the carry runs down and back up
- Short, steep, gated driveways with tight turning room for a full-size truck
- Very high-value contents are routine: fine art, pianos, antiques and wine collections
- Narrow peninsula streets leave little room to position or hold a large truck, so timing and a smaller shuttle are often planned
We know streets like Wolseley Road, Wingadal Place, Wentworth Street and the access that comes with them. Send your pickup and drop-off addresses with your quote and we will tell you exactly how we would handle the carry, the parking and any flight of stairs.
What we most often carry in Point Piper
The pieces that tend to decide a move here. Each one is handled white-glove, see exactly how:
Most of the catchment sits in the Woollahra Municipality, which does offer a formal Permit to Stand Plant (a temporary kerbside or road-occupation arrangement) that a removalist truck can use, with at least 48 hours notice; on a narrow street where the truck cannot keep a lane clear, a traffic management plan can be required and that takes longer to approve. Fees apply and change, so check the current amount with Woollahra Council directly rather than rely on a figure here. For many moves the realistic approach is simply legal parking plus careful timing, and we scout the loading position ahead of move day; where a permit genuinely helps, or a full-size truck cannot hold a spot, we plan it (and a smaller shuttle where needed) in advance.
My home steps down to the water. How does that change the move?
The carry runs down through the house to the lower levels and back up again, which is slow, careful work, especially for heavy or valuable pieces. We plan the route and the protection first, allow the right time, and bring enough hands so nothing is rushed on the descent or the climb.
The streets are narrow. Where will the truck go?
On the peninsula a large truck has little room to position or wait, so we often plan a smaller shuttle to bridge the street and the door, and time the loading to keep the narrow road clear. We work this out and cost it up front.
Can you move a wine collection and fine art safely?
Yes. Wine is boxed upright in proper cartons, kept cool and moved directly; art travels on edge and is crated where warranted; the insured value of significant pieces is covered before move day. The White-Glove planner walks through each.
How much does a Point Piper move cost?
Our online-quote rates start at $200/hour for two movers and a truck ($250 for three, $400 for a larger crew with two trucks), and you get a clear indicative quote up front for your specific move. Specialty pieces like a grand piano or fine art are quoted with the move once we know the piece and the access. No surprises on the day.
